h1n1

Yes, I got it. Two and a half weeks ago. It was the worst flu I've even had. And I had a mild case! I'm almost back to normal now. Usually, when I get the flu, I recover in a couple of days. This took 2 weeks!

Luckily, Josh and Avery got a VERY mild version - both kids only had a fever for 1 dose of Tylenol and then they were better. I had a fever for 4 days! Of course, many symptoms lasted much longer than 4 days, but I'm glad to say that we're all better now.

Brian, somehow, managed to bypass the whole thing and stayed healthy (knock on wood!). Brian's mom also helped us out by taking Josh for a couple of days when I was at my worst. She managed to escape infection it as well (btw, thanks Mom for helping us out!).

It's so weird that I have no idea how I got the h1n1 virus. It was probably some passing contact with someone who was infected. And then I exposed Brian, his mom and the kids to it and none of them really got it! Weird...

Most likely it was H1N1, but are you sure? It could have been another strain, hitting you just as nastily. Not that it matters -- a bad flu is a bad flu regardless.

I'm high on the list to get the vaccine when it comes in a couple of weeks, though.

Would you recommend the vaccine?

Hey glad yo hear your feeling better. My mom was just telling me the other day that she heard on the news that women our age will be hit the hardest. Then I hear what you're saying and I am starting to wonder if it is true?

By the way how do you know it was the H1N1 flu??

Would I recommend the vaccine? Not now for my family! Would I before I got the flu? I'm not sure...I'm not big on flu shots as it is (i.e. never had a shot for me or my kids), but I have heard the same thing, Kyla, about our demographic being hit hardest. I believe it, considering I seem to be the only one really affected in my family! I think that I may not have gotten the shot (for the whole family) unless it turned up close to us (daycare, work, community, etc.).

Having said that, how do you ever know who has it?! Like I said, I have no idea where I got it! But I know it was h1n1 because I went to the doctor when I couldn't kick the fever after 3 days. I really needed to know what I could take (I'm still breastfeeding Avery) because I could not function anymore. I also needed a nebulizer because my asthma was really bad and my regular inhalers weren't working. They did a nasal swab (I didn't actually know that was what they were testing for!). Five days later, they called to tell me it was h1n1. Isn't that great?! I had to think back to the last 8 days where I had been and all the people I was in contact with!

So, I wouldn't normally go to the doctor to get the flu checked out, but I was having a really hard time with the asthma and taking care of the kids, so I went and found out it was h1n1 by fluke. The symptoms present themselves as just a flu, so I'm wondering how many people are going around thinking they have just another bad flu!
